May 31–Cahokia Lecture!

If you are going to join us at Cahokia for a tour of the archaeology, a lecture about the writing of PEOPLE OF THE MORNING STAR, and the following book signing, be aware that we will lead a short walk down to Mound 72, leaving the Cahokia Mounds State Park Museum at 1:00 with the lecture starting in the Theater at 2:00. We will have to take a small break at 1:30 for a television interview. Hope to see everyone from the St. Louis area at Chokia Mounds on Saturday the 31st. Access to the site is at exit 6 off the I-55/70 freeway just east of downtown.

Will publishing survive?

Every author is worried that traditional paper books may not survive the battle of the Titans. What a tragedy it would be if readers could no longer go down to their local bookstore, pick up a real book, and flip through the pages. What do you think about this latest move by Amazon? http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/05/23/amazon-escalates-its-battle-against-hachette/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0

Great Review for PEOPLE OF THE MORNING STAR

We just read the review of PEOPLE OF THE MORNING STAR by Julia Robb! Our deepest appreciation goes out to Julia for her superb insight and interest. Check it out: http://juliarobb.com/blog/kathleen-michael-gear-unveil-cahokia/ Meanwhile, this a reminder: CAHOKIA MOUNDS STATE PARK LECTURE AND SIGNING. We will be at the Cahokia Mounds State Park Museum on Saturday, May 31, at 1:00 pm to give a lecture in the auditorium on the writing of PEOPLE OF THE MORNING STAR and how Cahokian archaeology has changed since the publication of PEOPLE OF THE RIVER twenty-two years ago. The lecture is free to the public, as is the museum and grounds of this World Heritage Site. Following the lecture you can purchase and have signed, PEOPLE OF THE MORNING STAR as well as many of our paperback titles that the gift store keeps in stock. COLLECTORS: Bring your collections and both of us will sign them, No limit. To reach the Cahokia Mounds State Park proceed across the Mississippi bridge from downtown St. Louis heading east on I-55/70. Once on the Illinois shore, we think it’s exit 6, but look for the brown Cahokia Mounds sign. From there, it’s south under the interstate, then follow the signs. We hope to see you there!

Rain at Red Canyon Ranch

Rained here last night. The air this afternoon is just crystal clear and fragrant with the mixed scents of wildflowers, lilacs, and the tang of juniper. 1.jpg

Don’t let the MDM Development Group destroy this rare Tequesta village site!

The Tequesta were an amazing people, and this is a very important archaeological site. Please blog, twitter, and do anything you can to help save this site! http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/20/us/miamis-past-and-future-clash-at-a-building-site.html?hpw&rref=us&_r=0
