Dear All:
Just as PEOPLE OF THE BLACK SUN is published (October 16, 2012) we have signed two more contracts with Tor/Forge books. Has publishing ever changed? The first book contract we signed back in 1986 with DAW Books for the SPIDER trilogy was one piece of paper, front and back. And it was written in English. The new Macmillan contract is 36 pages of single-space, written in lawyerese. They’ve gotta stop paying their attorneys by the word count!
The upshot is that we’re officially under contract for PEOPLE OF THE MORNING STAR and PEOPLE OF THE WINE DARK LAND. Both will be delivered in 2013, and we’ll post the pub dates as soon as we have them. (Yes, the fan club gets to hear first)
PEOPLE OF THE MORNING STAR is a novel about the great city and empire of Cahokia. This is a political thriller, dealing with betrayal, murder, and more than a bit of insanity. (Who better for a serial killer than a psychopath?) Someone is hunting the rulers of Cahokia, and the death comes silently in the night. No one, not even the thieves can get a peaceful night’s sleep.
PEOPLE OF THE WINE DARK LAND will be delivered in mid-summer. Recent research has expanded upon our understanding of the first Viking contacts with North America. It was more extensive than we thought–like for hundreds of years. Two very different world-views are about to clash. Myths and legends will twine around each other in the far northern mist.

Wonderful news! I’m currently reading “The Broken Land” and loving every page of the book… I got hooked on The People Books (and spin-offs such as The Anasazi Mysteries and the Contact-series) years ago. It’s always a nice surprise to hear news about new volumes:) And I hope we’ll see some familiar faces re-appear, such as Wolf Dreamer and Raven Hunter; just love it when those two brothers show up. Or maybe, in the Cahokia novel, someone like Nightshade or Lichen?
By the way, seeing that these two novels will appear right after each other, I guess they will be the good old “one volume books”, and not divided into several volumes, like People of the Weeping Eye and Thunder, and the Longhouse-series?
Anyhow, just wanted to thank you for your fantastic books, and wish you well with your writing!
Kind regards,
Roy, The Netherlands

Oh, I just remembered that some time ago, there was an idea to write an adult version of your children’s book “Children of the Dawnland”, called “People of the Dawnland”; has this idea been dropped, or is it a project you’ll pursue in the future?
There was also word of books called “People of the Painted Canyon” and “People of the Sky”; but since you both have so many wonderful idea’s, I guess you have to set priorities:)

I think I am loosing my mind. When I finished my last book I looked to see what the next one was. It was People of the Longhouse and then the next was People of the Forest. For some reason I am not able to find that book even on your list. And now I see there are 3 books in the Longhouse books. Did I dream the Forest book or what? LOL

Dear Sherrie: You’re not dreaming. The title was published in the list of forthcoming titles, but the publisher changed the title at the last minute. PEOPLE OF THE FOREST became DAWN COUNTRY, the second book in the PEOPLE OF THE LONGHOUSE series which consists of LONGHOUSE, DAWN COUNTRY, BROKEN LAND, and PEOPLE OF THE BLACK SUN. Sorry for the confusion.
